Scientific look into 150 years of rowing

The presentation at the following link provides both historical information and explanation for the improved performance of rowers over the last 150 years.

Pictures from Japan

My Space Ship (Where Tal stays)So, I am here already more than two weeks. The place is Suwa, Japan - about 200 kilometres North West-West from Tokyo. It is cold and the sun sets early.

The Oarlock

There is no rower who has never encountered an oarlock he or she could not open, maybe because her hands were wet or because the keeper was closed too tight. Sometimes it is also difficult for the rower to lean over the boat in order to open or close the oarlock on the other side. This is especially difficult for children or people with physical disabilities. Alfred Kidron from the Haifa Rowing Club has developed a solution.

Press The Monkey User Guide

press-the-monkey
"Press The Monkey" is a a database driven software application for logging rowing sessions and reporting boat damage. It is like "big brother" to make sure you report your boat usage, but rather than the ministry of truth we have the evil monkey to keep an eye on you.  This is the "Press The Monkey" user guide.

Committee update 2010-07

The club committee has converged once more since our last news letter. The protocols have not been submitted yet for publications, but during that meeting the laying-off of the club house-keeper has apparently been made final. In a later  message on the club forum, committee chairman has announced his resignation over critical comments he said were insulting.

Tel Aviv Rowing Club boats come out of the closet

Rainbow FlagThe Tel Aviv Rowing Club is proud to support the gay community. In act of solidarity and support, all the boats have been assigned one of the rainbow colors - each boat according to its inclinations. This was also done to assist the often confused club member in the choosing of a boat matching her own personal tendencies.

Tel Aviv Rowing Club is falling apart

The Tel Aviv Rowing Club is free-falling to unprecedented disgrace. The club founders would have probably been turning in their graves had they known.

No, this is not a reference to the laying-off of the long time club house-keeper last week. Neither is it about the recent news of the huge budget deficit for 2010, nor is it about the committee's intention to fire - possibly - the club coach to cover-up said deficit. Also do not think this is in reference to the decision to employ a new house keeper instead of the old one and paying him money the club does not have. And it is certainly not about the resignation of the chairman who was foaming about insolent publications critical of the conduct of the club committee.

Much worse. No one would have thought: Last Friday a number of club members were sitting here on the porch cracking sunflower seeds!

Tel Aviv Rowing Club Entrepreneur Support Program

Good news everyone:

if you got fed-up with the Tel Aviv Rowing Club's silly obsession with rowing, rowing, nothing but rowing, then you are in for a good surprise - the club is diversifying into commerce and marketing.  We have taken upon ourselves  the role of facilitators and are going to do whatever little we can to assist courageous entrepreneurs.

So, if you need an advertising space, or some free storage area right in the heart of the city of Tel Aviv, do not hesitate to file a request with members of our committee. Our committee members are known for their generosity and are vested with wide executive powers, such as breaking walls and giving real-estate concessions during their term in office.

It may help your cause if you have already made friends here and bribe us with little perks - Israel is a desert nation, as you well know, so a gift of WATER™ is guaranteed to advance your cause.

Committee update 2010-06: nothing here

The committee has met twice since the previous NL issue, but has not yet published its protocols.
